Born October 2 1971, Jamie Montoya grew up in a church that helped to nurture his gift in music. A significant event changed his life forever when he was 5. Here in his own words is the telling of that story:
I remember the day I sang my first solo in church. It was at Pope Drive Baptist in Anderson, S.C. The children were putting on a musical about Jesus feeding the 5,000 with 7 loaves of bread and a few fish. I was chose to be the kid who gave Jesus what he had and I sang a little song. Somewhere between my song, and the excitement of doing a solo, I came into an understanding of who Jesus truly is. Without anyone prompting me, I remember climbing down the pew and going up to the pastor during the invitation. He called my parents to the altar, and we kneeled and prayed. I remember closing my eyes and asking Jesus to come into my heart. I also distinctively remember when I opened my eyes, I turned to my parents and said, “Mom, dad…God wants me to do something in music.” It wasn’t long after I began taking piano lessons. The rest they say is history and you just have to listen to the result of those lessons in Jamies contribution to CEgs first disc to know those lessons were not wasted!
