Meadow Brook Hall was built between the years 1926 and 1929 by Matilda Dodge Wilson, the widow of auto pioneer John Dodge and her then husband lumber broker Alfred G Wilson. The 110-room, 88,000-square-foot, Tudor-revival style mansion is the fourth largest historic house museum in the United States and is complete with vast collections of original art and furnishings. The home sits on the campus of Oakland University which is located in Rochester, a suburb of Detroit and was bequeathed by Matilda along with 1500 acres and $2 million dollars in 1957 to found the University. Matilda died in 1967, four years before the home was opened to the public.
